Cam Davis expressed sympathy for Akshay Bhatia, who lost the Rocket Mortgage Classic on the final hole. Davis understood the disappointment of missing a crucial putt because he had experienced it himself in the past.
On June 30th, Cam Davis secured his second victory at the Rocket Mortgage Classic with a 2-under 70. In contrast, it was a heartbreaking moment for Bhatia, who had been leading but stumbled on the final hole with a three-putt, resulting in a joint runner-up finish.
During the winner’s press conference, Davis shared his empathy for Bhat’s situation.
“I can relate to it a lot,” he said. “I had a similar putt to win a tournament in 2021. It was one of those tricky downhill putts on bumpy greens. I know the feeling of watching that putt miss when it could have meant a victory or a playoff.”
“However, Bhatia played incredibly well too. I was prepared for a playoff and expected him to make that par putt, let alone the first one. When you’re in that situation, you have to anticipate anything. So, I truly understand what he’s going through,” Davis continued.
Davis acknowledged that it was a difficult position for Bhatia, and as the beneficiary of the situation, it felt strange for him as well. Nonetheless, he expressed relief as this win had been a long time coming.
“I’m going to make sure I savor and appreciate this victory,” he concluded.
After his triumph at the Rocket Mortgage Classic, Cam Davis climbed 29 spots in the Official World Golf Ranking, breaking into the top 50. He now holds the 38th position, which is his highest ranking to date.
Davis now boasts two PGA Tour titles. Notably, his first victory also occurred at the Detroit Golf Club three years ago when he defeated Joaquin Niemann and Troy Merritt.
