The 2024 US Senior Open has been rescheduled to Monday due to severe weather conditions. The tournament, which was originally set to conclude on Sunday, June 30, at the Newport Country Club in Newport, Rhode Island, will now extend into the following day.
In an effort to avoid the inclement weather on Saturday, the tee times were moved up. Unfortunately, the same strategy could not be implemented on Sunday due to heavy fog, which caused a delay in the start of play. Consequently, the USGA made the decision to suspend the tournament on Sunday at 3:01 p.m. ET, citing safety concerns related to the dangerous weather conditions at Newport Country Club.
The final round of the tournament will resume on Monday, July 1, at 8:00 am ET. Hiroyuki Fujita currently leads the leaderboard at the 2024 US Senior Open with an impressive aggregate score of 16-under 196. With only seven holes left to play, the Japanese player has the opportunity to secure his first victory on American soil. Notably, his best performance in a Major tournament was a 41st place finish at the 2005 Open at St. Andrews.
In second place is Richard Bland, who has scored 13-under 201 after completing 65 holes at the 2024 US Senior Open. Richard Green holds the third position with a score of 12-under 200, while Steve Stricker sits in fourth place with a score of 10-under 198.
