Caitlin Clark became the first WNBA rookie to record a triple-double with 19 points, 12 rebounds, and 13 assists.

Clark’s performance helped Indiana Fever defeat top-seeded New York Liberty, 83-78.

The come-from-behind win gave the Fever their ninth win of the season, while New York suffers just its fourth loss.

Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark continues to add to her legend in just her first year in the WNBA. During their thrilling 83-78 win over the top-seeded New York Liberty, Clark became the first rookie in league history to notch a triple-double with 19 points, 12 rebounds, and 13 assists.

Clark achieved the feat with a little over seven minutes left in the fourth quarter after grabbing her 10th rebound of the night before getting two more to close the game.

Clark almost achieved the feat on June 30th during their similarly impressive win over Diana Taurasi, Brittney Griner, and the Phoenix Mercury when she fell one rebound short of a triple-double (15 points, 12 assists, nine rebounds). But it did not take long for her to make history.

With her 19 points, Clark led all Fever scorers, while her fellow All-Star teammate Aliyah Boston tallied 18 points and eight rebounds in the win. Meanwhile, the Liberty were led by Sabrina Ionescu’s 23 points, while Betnijah Laney-Hamilton added 20 points.

History aside, Clark is likely happier with the fact that the Fever just took down the best team in the WNBA. Indiana handed New York just its fourth loss of the season in come-from-behind fashion. With the win, the Fever snapped a nine-game losing streak to the Liberty and now hold a 9-13 record, which is good enough for the No. 8 seed in the playoff picture.

Fever Are Heating Up at the Right Time

Their win over the Liberty is a huge boost for their confidence

As with many young teams, the Fever sputtered out of the gates of the 2024 WNBA season. But don’t look now, the Clark and Boston-led Fever are now making a run to make the postseason and that is in large part due to the play of their All-Star tandem of Clark and Boston.

This win over the league’s top team should give Indiana the confidence boost it needs to push through the rest of the campaign. The Fever and Liberty featured in a back-and-forth affair throughout Saturday afternoon.

Indiana had control of the game through the first half, before New York recovered and took over in the third quarter. The Liberty looked well on their way to showing the Fever just why they were the best team in the league. But Indiana showed that it can hang with the best of them by outscoring New York 28-16 in the fourth quarter.

The Liberty led by as much as 10 points in the final frame, before the Fever closed the game with an impressive 22-7 run.
