Lewis Hamilton has openly criticized Max Verstappen, claiming that “he did not behave like an F1 world champion” in his conduct during last weekend’s Hungarian Grand Prix. The Red Bull driver was criticized for his radio complaints with his race engineer, Gianpiero Lambiase, at Hungaroring, lamenting the strategic decisions applied to him.
Additionally, he had an on-track clash with the seven-time champion when he lunged from afar to overtake him, and the Mercedes driver turned into his car as he passed, touching and sending him off the track, although it’s true that he was already very late on the brakes.
The exchanges filled with insults over the radio were condemned in some sectors after the race, and Verstappen later insulted those who criticized his behavior.
“Perhaps such a leader should remember that he is a teammate to many people. He has to act like a world champion,” said Lewis in the Mercedes motorhome in a rather personal attack. When asked what acting like an F1 world champion entails, Hamilton added, “He didn’t do it last weekend.”
