“I can’t believe I’ve been back-stabbed after everything”😢Jon Rahm tearfully writes as he tenders his Liv golf resignation.

Jon Rahm has withdrawn from LIV Golf’s team championship.

Ahead of its season finale at Maridoe Golf Club outside Dallas this weekend, LIV released a statement that the two-time major champ has pulled out of its event, citing flu-like symptoms. In his place will be LIV alternate John Catlin.

Rahm was LIV’s signature signing for its third season, reportedly defecting to the Saudi-backed circuit for more than $300 million after insisting for years that he wasn’t interested in LIV. He heads his own club named “Legion XIII” that finished second in the league’s regular-season standings.

The WD is the latest in an up-and-down season for Rahm. He struggled at the Masters, missed the cut at the PGA Championship and pulled out of the U.S. Open due to a toe infection. Rahm bounced back with a top-10 at the Open and contended for a gold medal during the Paris Olympics before faltering down the stretch to miss the podium. Conversely, Rahm won two times against LIV’s 52-player fields in 2024 and took the league’s individual title—and a $18 million bonus payday—last week.

While being prohibited from playing on the PGA Tour, Rahm has maintained his membership on the DP World Tour, in large part in order to still have a chance at playing for Europe in the Ryder Cup. Rahm has accumulated a series of fines and supsensions because of playing in LIV events opposite DP World Tour events. Rahm was vocial in saying he would not pay the fines and has appealed those all sanctions, thus allowing him to continue to compete in DP World Tour events and maintain his membership, a requirement for Ryder Cup eligibility. Rahm has signed up to compete in next week’s Spanish Open. There are no dates as of yet for when the appeal will be heard or ruled on.

LIV will hand out $50 million for its team championship this weekend. Rahm’s team entered the event as the No. 2 seed, and despite Rahm missing Saturday’s semifinals at Maridoe, Legion XIII advanced to the finals on Sunday. The winning team Sunday will earn $14 million.
