Scottie Scheffler, the world number one golfer, sustained an injury to his right hand in a home accident on Christmas Day, requiring surgery. As a result, he has withdrawn from The Sentry, the opening event of the 2025 PGA Tour season.The announcement was made by PGA Tour Communications on X (formerly Twitter), accompanied by a statement from Scheffler’s manager, Blake Smith. Since turning professional, Scheffler has rarely withdrawn from tournaments and has never done so after an event has begun. His most notable prior withdrawal was from the 2020 US Open after testing positive for Covid-19.The Sentry is scheduled to take place from January 2-5 at the Plantation Course in Kapalua, Hawaii. With Scheffler’s absence, World No. 2 Xander Schauffele will be the highest-ranked player in the field.
